Selection Test

 

 JNVST SELECTION TEST FOR CLASS-VI:
 
The Selection Test for Class-VI of JNVs are conducted every year by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, Admission Cell CBSE, New Delhi. The tests are conducted at the District level.
 
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR THE CANDIDATES:
 
Only the candidates from the district where the JNV has been established are eligible to apply for admission. A candidate appearing for the selection test must be studying in Class V for the whole academic session for that year in a Govt. aided or other recognized school in the same district where he/she is seeking admission. Actual admission in Class VI for that year will be subjected to the condition that the candidate must have successfully completed Class V that year when he/she is seeking admission.
          A candidate must have studied and passed Class III, IV, V from recognized school or schools spending a full academic session without any repetition of class gap or break in attendance in each class through the formal system of education.
          No candidate is eligible to appear in the selection test a second time, under any circumstances.
 
FOR RURAL CANDIDATES:
 
a) At least 75% of the seats in the district will be filled by candidates selected from rural areas and the remaining seats will be filled from the Urban areas of the district.
 
b) A candidate seeking admission under the rural quota must have studied in Classes III, IV, V completing full academic session without repetition in class gap or break, from recognized school(s) located in the rural areas.
 
FOR URBAN CANDIDATES:
 
A Candidate who has studied in a school located in an urban area even for a single day of a session in any classes III, IV, V will be considered on Urban category. Urban area are those which are so defined in the 1991 census or through a subsequent Govt. Notification. All other areas will be considered as rural.
 
a) There is a provision for reservation of seats for SC/ST candidates.
b) There is provision for reservation of seats for girls.
c) No reservation of seats is provided for any other backward classes (OBC).
 
          The required application form with Prospectus can be obtained free of cost from the following: -
i) District Education Officer/DDPI as the case may be
ii) Block Education Officers.
iii) Head Master/Head Mistress of any recognized school or the district having class V and
iv) Principal, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya of the district concerned.
 
The filled in applications form must be submitted to the Block Education Officer, signed by the Head of the recognized school where the candidate is studying in Class V before the last date as prescribed in the notification.
 
MEDIUM OF THE EXAM:
 
The language medium of the examination for the candidate will be the medium through which the candidate is studying in Class-V.
 
COMPOSITION OF THE TEST:
 
The selection test will be of two hour duration and will have three sections with only objective type of questions.

There are 100 questions in all of 100 marks. Each question carries one mark. The three sections are as follows.
 
Applications received from the parents by the BEO’s of the respective Taluks will be submitted to the DDPI Office for onward submission to the Principal of the concerned JNV.  The applications will be thoroughly scrutinized by the Scrutinizing Board constituted by the Principal comprising the teachers of JNV to ensure whether the candidates fulfill the eligibility criteria in the prospectus.
 
 
ADMIT CARDS:
 
Admit cards will be prepared for those students who fulfill the eligibility criteria, the same card will be issued to the candidates by the concerned BEO.
 
ORIENTATION:
 
The DDPI of the District in collaboration with the Principal JNV conduct an orientation programme to the Centre Superintendents to conduct the selection test smoothly.  JNV Staff also will be on duty on the date of examination and they act as centre level observers.
 
After the completion of the test, the sealed packets are collected by the DDPI office from where the sealed answer scripts will be sent to NVS, Admission cell, New Delhi for evaluation. After receiving selection test results from CBSE New Delhi, the Principal of the concerned JNV will admit the candidates.
 
 SELECTION TEST FOR CLASS-IX:
 
Vidyalaya wise vacant seats in Class IX will be notified.
 
Applications for admission in Class IX can be made in the prescribed proforma, attached to the prospectus obtained free of charge from the principal’s office of the concerned JNV of the district. Format of application form can also be downloaded from the NVS website, navodaya.nic.in.
 
 
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
 
The students who have studied or studying in class VIII that year in any of the Govt./Govt. recognized school of the district where the JNV is functioning and admission is sought.
 
EXAMINATION AND COMPOSITION OF THE TEST:
 
Selection test will consist of subjects of Maths, General Science, English and Hindi, difficulty level of the paper will be of Class-VIII.

The test will be objective type/descriptive types with three hour duration without break.
Cluster level central evaluation is done by JNV teachers and the selection is made category wise. Selected candidates will be sent intimation by the Principal for admission.
 
SELECTION TEST FOR CLASS-XI AGAINST VACANT SEATS:
 
Admission will be made on the basis of performance of students in class X board examination by CBSE/State Education Board.
 
CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION:
 
a) Admission of students will be made against available vacancies in class XI on the basis of marks scored by students in class X Board exam during that year.
b) Candidates are required to submit their applications in the prescribed proforma along with photocopies duly attested by the head of the institution last attended in support of their qualification, Caste etc. the Principal JNV will verify this information furnished by the candidates from the original certificates  at the time of admission. The selected students will be informed by the Principal of concerned JNV, by registered post.
 
c) Medically unfit students will not be admitted.
 
SCHEME OF STUDIES:
Stream available in JNVs will be allotted to students as per the following criteria.
a) Science with Maths:
 
i)       50% marks in English
ii)  55% marks in Maths
iii) 55% marks in Science
iv) 60% marks in Maths and Science.
v) 55% marks in aggregate of all subjects.
 
 
b) Science without Maths:
 
i)       50% marks in English
ii)  60% marks in Science
iii) 55% marks in aggregate of all subjects.
 
Reservation of total seats in Class XI for various categories:
 
SC              - 15%                             Urban                    - 25%
ST               - 7 ½                               Rural                     - 75%
Girl Child    - 33%
In our JNV only Science stream is available  
 
HOW TO APPLY:
 
i) Principal of the concerned JNV shall work out vacancies in various streams of Class XI after the announcement of results.
ii) Vacant seats available will be notified.
iii) Prospectus-Cum-application form can be obtained free of cost from the offices of JNV, DDPI and BEO. Neatly typed and scored copy of the application can also be used for applying.
iv) Application forms filled in are to be submitted to the office of the Principal, JNV either through Registered Post or in person as per the date prescribed.
